‘Metarust’ is an Alternative Metal band based in Dubai, formed by Saif Sami, Samir Sami and Marwan El-Messeery in 2009. Showcasing a range of styles of Metal and rock, Metarust record and produce their own original music in-house, and have established a presence, releasing original music since 2019 and have made an impression on the UAE music scene since.
Our Story
Metarust, formed in 2009 by brothers Saif and Samir Sami, alongside their childhood friend Marwan El-Messeery in Dubai, embarked on their musical journey at a young age. Saif and Marwan at 13 and Samir at nine years old. Their interest in music started early; Saif and Samir, were encouraged into guitar and drums lessons by their parents to in-still a new discipline for their children. Marwan, picking up bass not long after meeting the brothers, shared a bond with them over heavy music and introduced them to bands that would define their influence for years to come. GulfNews.
The band's name, Metarust, was inspired after the members attended a Metallica concert in Abu Dhabi in 2011. This experience was so pivotal that it pushed them to take their musical aspirations more seriously, even branding themselves on social platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube immediately after. The name "Metarust" itself comes from a blend of their metal influences and a quirky incident involving a school quiz on chemistry, specifically on rust, which happened right after the concert. Metarust's music has been described as a unique mix of heavy rock with elements of classic rock, and a touch of modern swag. Their style is notably eclectic, influenced by a wide range of genres including metal, rock, hip-hop, jazz, blues, and classical music. Over the years, Metarust has released several singles with their debut "Killing Me Psycho" in December 2019. Their song "Hollow" came from a musical idea that Saif had since high school, combined with lyrics that struck him during a particularly challenging time, highlighting the band's personal and introspective approach to their music. Metarust aims to bring international attention to the UAE as a music hub, with aspirations to perform worldwide. “At the end of the day, we want people to think of Dubai when it comes to music.
